Downtown Coral Gables will begin the new year on a familiar and festive note Friday, Jan. 2, as Gables Gallery Night and Giralda Live return for the city’s first First Friday of 2026—bringing together art, live music, dining, and street-level energy in the heart of the City Beautiful.

Held monthly, the paired events have become a cornerstone of Coral Gables’ cultural calendar, offering residents and visitors an easy, walkable way to experience local galleries, public spaces, and live performances after hours.

Galleries open their doors

Gables Gallery Night runs from 6 to 10 p.m., with participating galleries and art venues welcoming the public for an evening of fine art, live music, and casual exploration. The event encourages visitors to linger, move between spaces, and enjoy downtown at a relaxed pace.

Among the confirmed participants this month is Garcia Art Gallery at 102 Giralda Ave., one of several stops showcasing the city’s creative talent. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the city’s trolley service or Freebee on-demand vehicles to travel between galleries without the need to drive or park.

Giralda Plaza becomes a pedestrian hub

As Gallery Night unfolds, attention shifts to Giralda Plaza, where Giralda Live takes over from 7 to 11 p.m. The pedestrian-only street transforms into a lively corridor of music, dining, and social activity.

Restaurants along the plaza extend seating outdoors, creating an alfresco dining scene that has become a signature of the event. Local artists and vendors add texture to the evening, turning the plaza into a shared public living room for the night.

Live music anchors the evening

Live performances are scheduled from 8 to 10 p.m., with January’s featured act, Soul Travelers, bringing a high-energy, crowd-pleasing set to kick off the new year. The band’s repertoire spans Classic and Modern Rock, Pop, Funk, Reggae, Blues, and Latin Rock, designed to appeal across generations and keep the plaza moving well into the evening.

The performance serves as both centerpiece and soundtrack, complementing the broader experience rather than overwhelming it.

Dining, strolling, and seasonal atmosphere

Beyond the music, Giralda Live is defined by its atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the plaza, browse vendor offerings, and enjoy dinner or drinks outdoors. Downtown Coral Gables remains softly illuminated for the season, providing a warm backdrop for a night that feels celebratory without spectacle.

For many residents, the first Friday of January offers a natural reset—an opportunity to reconnect with neighbors and local businesses as the city eases back into its cultural rhythm after the holidays.

The night continues after the music

When Giralda Live winds down at 11 p.m., the evening doesn’t have to end. Organizers encourage guests to continue on to nearby venues, including The Bar, where live music and late-night energy often carry on well after the plaza quiets.

Together, Gallery Night and Giralda Live reflect Coral Gables at its most approachable—where art, music, and public space intersect in a way that feels organic, social, and distinctly local. On Jan. 2, the city’s First Friday tradition returns not with fanfare, but with confidence, inviting the community to start 2026 together.
