A dominatrix for Hillary. A Trump campaign operative with a model girlfriend. A socialist daughter clashing with her Cuban exile dad. These are just a few of the eccentric characters populating Can’t Let It Go, the sharp new political comedy from director Roy Szuper, screening in preview at Coral Gables Art Cinema with Szuper and actor Mario Cantone in attendance.
Set in New York during the turbulent days surrounding the 2016 presidential election, the film unfolds through five interconnected vignettes, each orbiting a personal—and often absurd—collision with the political moment. The screening event, scheduled for on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:15 pm includes a wine reception, the film presentation, and a post-screening Q&A with the filmmaker and cast.
Tickets are limited, with members receiving first access. The event is presented in partnership with The Biltmore Hotel, which serves as the evening’s official hospitality sponsor.
A comedic tapestry of political disruption
Can’t Let It Go doesn’t aim for subtlety. It leans all the way in.
One storyline follows a Black gay man hired as a Trump body double. Another tracks a Hillary Clinton field organizer who secretly works as a professional dominatrix. There’s a blue-collar everyman plotting to open a kosher laundromat, a leftist actor who dreams of portraying John Wilkes Booth, and a conservative émigré trying to reason with his fiercely progressive daughter.
These threads are woven into a fast-moving 85-minute narrative that balances dialogue-driven realism with heightened visual stylization, a combination that critics have compared to the work of Noah Baumbach—but with a higher budget and sharper political bite.
“Szuper’s film shows different perspectives of New Yorkers coping with that burgeoning new world in a comedic context,” wrote Bradley Gibson of Film Threat, praising its tonal tightrope between absurdity and insight.
A rare chance to hear from the creators
The Coral Gables screening offers more than just early access. It gives local audiences a chance to engage directly with the creative team behind one of the most unpredictable political satires in recent memory.
Director Roy Szuper, known for blending theatrical dialogue with bold visuals, will appear alongside Mario Cantone, best known for his roles on Sex and the City and The View. Cantone plays Bernie, a high-strung actor struggling with his identity as both artist and activist.
Their post-film Q&A is expected to dive into how comedy can serve as both cultural mirror and pressure release valve—especially in a post-2016 America where satire often walks a tightrope between catharsis and provocation.
