When twilight falls over Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden this weekend, the city’s most enchanting holiday tradition will bloom back to life. NightGarden at Fairchild opens Friday, November 7, inviting visitors to wander through 83 acres of illuminated tropical landscape where light, sound, and imagination blend into one of South Florida’s signature winter experiences.

Now in its seventh year, the award-winning attraction has become a fixture of Miami’s holiday season—a glowing reminder that even in the tropics, winter can sparkle. From interactive installations to glowing domes and fairy encounters, this year’s edition pushes the creative boundaries of what a garden of lights can be.

A playground of light and wonder

“NightGarden has become part of Miami’s holiday tradition,” said Nannette Zapata, deputy director of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. “It’s Miami’s most beautiful winter tradition, a place where nature, art, and imagination meet to create a world that feels both timeless and new. Every season brings new surprises, but the magic is always the same—friends and families sharing time together and stepping into a place that feels magical and extraordinary.”

The 2025–26 season delivers on that promise with over 800 new lighting fixtures and an expanded creative footprint. Returning guests will find favorite moments reimagined, while first-time visitors will encounter an ever-changing dreamscape of color and sound.

Among the new highlights:

  • The Welcoming Tree, a towering neon landmark that responds to human touch.
  • Pixie’s Detour, a side trail filled with projections, triggers, and hidden fairy surprises.
  • The Secret Garden Laser Show, a pulse of synchronized lights and sound deep within the grove.
  • Neon Roots (Upper Rainforest), where glowing, root-inspired lighting transforms the canopy into a living artwork.
  • Tree of Life, a monumental centerpiece that glows when touched, symbolizing connection between guests and nature.
  • Immersive Domes, sculptural fairy sanctuaries that double as ethereal photo spots.

Guests can also rediscover fan favorites such as the Winter Twinkle Zone, the Orchid Bridge, and Archie the Talking Tree, whose witty commentary has become a NightGarden legend.

New twists on tradition

Each year brings its own creative twist, and 2025 introduces a playful collaboration with the collectibles brand Bubble Pops. The Orlando-based company has installed a forest-themed pop-up inspired by its Labubu and the Monster Series, featuring rare merchandise, hidden giveaways, and imaginative retail vignettes woven into the event’s storytelling environment.

Fairchild describes the collaboration as a “forest-inspired surprise” that merges shopping, art, and discovery. For many attendees, it’s the first time retail has been treated as an integrated part of the garden’s narrative—something to explore, not just browse.

Another new feature, Movie Nights at the Garden, turns select evenings into open-air theaters where guests can relax under a canopy of lights and enjoy classic holiday films with cocoa and blankets. Between screenings, impromptu dance parties and nightly “snowfalls” keep the festive energy alive.

South Florida’s winter signature

Since its debut in 2018, NightGarden has drawn visitors from around the world who come to experience Miami’s version of a winter wonderland. The event combines botanical artistry with interactive technology, drawing more than 100,000 guests each season.

The family-friendly atmosphere is enhanced by food trucks, cocktails, and treats for kids, creating a sensory playground that balances spectacle with warmth. The setting—Fairchild’s lush rainforest, orchid collections, and lakeside vistas—makes it a uniquely Miami expression of the holidays: vibrant, tropical, and always a little unexpected.

For New Year’s Eve, the garden will host an extended celebration from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., complete with countdown, lights, and music beneath the stars.

Connecting people with nature

Beyond the spectacle, NightGarden speaks to Fairchild’s deeper mission: using art and innovation to connect people with nature. The event helps fund educational programs that reach more than 300,000 students each year, including the Fairchild Challenge and the Million Orchid Project, initiatives that have positioned the garden as one of the nation’s leading centers for plant science education.

Founded in 1938 by explorer Dr. David Fairchild, the 83-acre nonprofit garden remains home to the only tropical rainforest in the continental United States. Hosting NightGarden each year keeps that legacy relevant—reminding visitors that wonder itself can be a gateway to conservation.

Fairchild has long been known for signature events like the Chocolate Festival, Mango Festival, and Orchid Show, but NightGarden has become its modern masterpiece, the one event that draws every generation together beneath the same lights.
