Families are invited to spend the day under the tree canopy of the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center as the Coral Gables Family Literacy Festival returns for its fifth year on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 405 University Drive.
Presented by Books & Books, the free, family-friendly festival is designed to spark curiosity, promote summer reading, and celebrate the joy of storytelling. The event features a Scholastic book fair, hands-on children’s activities, literacy exhibitors, live music, food vendors, and interactive opportunities for all ages and abilities.
“Literacy opens doors, and this festival helps families make reading part of everyday life,” said festival organizers. “It’s a joyful kickoff to summer and a powerful way to build community through books.”
Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy:
- Author readings and book signings
- Book exchange tables and donation stations
- Free literacy screenings and evaluations
- A street fair with local education vendors and nonprofit organizations
- Live music and entertainment
- A range of activities tailored to young readers and emerging learners
Now in its fifth year, the Coral Gables Family Literacy Festival has grown into one of the city’s signature youth events, attracting families from across Miami-Dade County. The setting beneath the shady trees of the Youth Center adds a relaxed, park-like atmosphere that encourages attendees to linger, browse, and engage.
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring gently used books to donate or exchange.
