The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will host a Celebration of Life for Mark A. Trowbridge, the late president and CEO of the chamber and a beloved figure in the Coral Gables community, on Friday, April 25. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel (2950 Coconut Grove Drive, Coral Gables), with the program starting promptly at 9 a.m.
Trowbridge died in February at the age of 56, following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. Known affectionately as “Mr. Coral Gables”, Trowbridge dedicated nearly two decades to the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, significantly enhancing its influence and fostering growth in the community. Under his leadership, the chamber’s revenue increased by more than 40%; he was instrumental in launching popular events like Burgerliscious and promoting initiatives such as Small Business Saturday, which provided vital support to local businesses.
Tribute for visionary leader
Trowbridge’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He was celebrated for his ability to connect people and his unwavering commitment to the community. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said, “My heart goes out to all those around the County who were blessed by his fun and loving presence.” Sarah Artecona, a close friend and former University of Miami Associate Vice President, recalled Trowbridge’s approach, saying, “He saw himself as the connector of people in Coral Gables and throughout the community.”
Trowbridge’s influence reached far beyond Coral Gables. David A. Armstrong, president of St. Thomas University, reflected on his passing, stating, “A great loss to South Florida. A fellow Ohioan, he was larger than life.” His resilience during his health challenges left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Speeches, remembrances
The Celebration of Life will offer attendees the opportunity to honor Trowbridge’s memory and reflect on his contributions to Coral Gables. The event will feature speeches and remembrances from friends, colleagues, and community leaders who were touched by his work and character.
In celebration of Trowbridge’s alma mater, the University of Florida, the Chamber encourages guests to wear bright colors, such as Gators orange and blue. Trowbridge was also known for his love of floral shirts, so attendees are encouraged to wear those as a tribute to his personal style.
A Lasting Legacy
Trowbridge’s legacy as a visionary leader and community connector will continue to inspire the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the community for years to come. His efforts to strengthen the local business community, advocate for economic development, and build meaningful connections will never be forgotten. The Celebration of Life for Mark A. Trowbridge will be a tribute to a man who shaped the Coral Gables community and beyond.
