The soaring beauty of Puccini, the lyrical charm of Mozart, and the rousing drama of Verdi will fill the Miracle Theatre this Sunday, June 15, as the Alhambra Orchestra presents an afternoon of opera favorites featuring top emerging vocal talent from the Manny Perez Vocal Studio.
Set for 3 p.m. at Actors’ Playhouse on Miracle Mile, the performance brings together the power of live symphonic music with the magic of the human voice in a family-friendly, accessible concert designed to delight opera aficionados and first-timers alike. Tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, making it one of Coral Gables’ best cultural bargains of the season.
Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Daniel Andai, the Alhambra Orchestra will open the program with the dramatic overture from Verdi’s “Nabucco,” setting the stage for a curated lineup of arias and ensembles from some of the world’s most beloved operas. The concert features ten outstanding vocalists from the Manny Perez Vocal Studio, each bringing their distinctive artistry to selections from Puccini, Mozart, Donizetti, Strauss and more.
Among the program highlights:
- Tenor Bryan Corral (The Juilliard School) performs “Che beltà, che leggiadria” from Mozart’s “La finta giardiniera”
- Silvio Plata (University of Miami) sings the tender “Una furtiva lagrima” from Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”
- Ciara Martinez (Northwestern University) delivers Puccini’s heartfelt “O mio babbino caro”
- Soprano Lisset Iglesias offers the effervescent “Mein Herr Marquis” from Strauss’s “Die Fledermaus”
- Ray Gonzalez closes the program with the show-stopping “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s “Turandot”
Also featured are selections from zarzuela (“No puede ser”), Broadway (“Camelot”), and other operatic staples that span languages, styles, and centuries. The diversity of the program reflects both the broad appeal of opera and the vocal studio’s mission to train singers for a wide variety of performance careers.
Manny Perez, the concert’s vocal director, is one of the most respected voice teachers in the country. Based in both Miami and New York, Perez’s students have gone on to perform on national and international stages, and his recent appointment to the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program cements his standing as a premier mentor in the field.
The Alhambra Orchestra, founded in 1990, has earned a reputation for making classical music accessible and engaging. With a full concert season supported by Miami-Dade County and the City of Coral Gables, the orchestra continues to serve South Florida audiences with high-quality, affordable performances. This concert is part of their commitment to community enrichment, offering residents a chance to experience world-class music close to home.
The Miracle Theatre, one of Coral Gables’ architectural treasures, provides an intimate yet grand setting for the event. Situated in the heart of downtown, the venue offers the perfect opportunity to pair the performance with lunch, coffee, or post-show drinks at one of the many restaurants along Miracle Mile. With tickets priced to encourage attendance, this concert invites music lovers of all ages to enjoy an art form that still moves hearts centuries after its birth.
