Tropical storm gusts topple trees

A severe thunderstorm swept through Coral Gables, causing damage across the city on May 4. The storm brought heavy rain and gale-force winds, leading to numerous downed trees throughout the city, including a fallen tree from the intersection of Toledo Street and Calbira Avenue that blocked traffic.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for central east Miami-Dade County, including Coral Gables, at 1:52 p.m. The warning highlighted hazards such as 60 mph wind gusts.

While specific reports from Coral Gables are still forthcoming, residents are advised report any downed trees to local authorities.

As cleanup efforts continue, city officials are assessing the full extent of the damage.
