Election Day: How, when and where to vote
The City of Coral Gables is holding its biennial elections on Tuesday, April 8, with polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. There are three races on the ballot – mayor, Commission, Group II and Commission, Group III. City residents must vote at their designated polling station on election day – with a total of 14 polling stations throughout the city that stretch from outskirts of Little Havana near the northernmost tips of the city, all the way south to Palmetto Bay near its southernmost point (three of the Gables’ polling places are outside city limits).
Early voting Saturday and Sunday, April 5 & 6.
For those who want to avoid the hassles of voting on a Tuesday, early voting will take place at the Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia Street, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6.
Mail ballots already sent out
A total of 6,309 vote by mail ballots have already been sent to Coral Gables residents (deadline was March 27). That’s only about 600 less than the total turnout of the 2023 Biennial election for two commission seats (not including the mayoral seat, which was uncontested). Voters can also drop off their vote-by-mail ballots at the Coral Gables Branch Library.
Possible runoff information
If none of the candidates in any of the three elections get a majority of votes, there will be runoff elections between the top two vote getters in that election on April 22, with early voting for the runoff taking place April 19 and 20. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot for a possible runoff election is April 10.
Total registered voters and active/inactive voters
There are a total of 37,247 registered voters in the city, with 34,342 active voters. Here is the difference between registered and active/inactive voters, according to the city’s Communications and Public Affairs Director Martha Pantín: “If you do not vote in two consecutive general elections, you are sent a letter by the Department of Elections checking on you. If after four letters you do not respond to any of them, you become inactive. You are still registered but considered an inactive voter.”
Election Day polling stations
