City opens six new pickleball courts at Kerdyk Tennis Center

The City of Coral Gables celebrated the opening of six new pickleball courts at the William H. Kerdyk Biltmore Tennis Center last weekend. The official opening took place on Monday, March 17, 2025, with a special preview event held on Saturday, March 15, allowing residents to try out the courts ahead of time.

The introduction of these courts reflects the city’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and meeting the growing demand for pickleball facilities. Pickleball, a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, has seen a surge in popularity nationwide, appealing to a wide range of age groups.

The temporary courts have been created to address a rising demand in Coral Gables, as popularity for the sport has risen, while the city works on designing a permanent pickleball facility adjacent to the Tennis Center.

The Tennis Center now offers both open play and social play options for pickleball enthusiasts. The schedule is designed to accommodate various skill levels, with specific times allocated for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players. For instance, on Mondays, open play is available from 9 to 11 a.m. for beginners, 5 to 7 p.m. for advanced players, and 7 to 9 p.m. for intermediate players. Social play sessions are also available throughout the week, providing opportunities for casual play and community engagement.

Residents and visitors interested in utilizing the new pickleball courts can set up accounts and make reservations through the city’s official platform, PlayGables.com. This user-friendly system ensures that players can easily access court availability and book sessions that fit their schedules.

The addition of these courts is part of Coral Gables’ broader initiative to enhance recreational facilities and promote community well-being. By investing in such amenities, the city aims to provide residents with diverse opportunities to engage in physical activities, fostering a healthier and more connected community.
