Make a difference in your community while staying active! Join us for the 2025 Great American Cleanup season on Saturday, April 19, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Matheson Hammock Park, located at 9610 Old Cutler Road. Volunteers will jog or walk through the park’s scenic mangrove trails, collecting litter to prevent it from re-entering the ocean and harming marine life.
What’s Plogging?
Plogging is an eco-friendly workout that combines jogging (or walking) with “plocka upp” — Swedish for “picking up” litter. This unique activity allows you to move at your own pace while making a real difference in the environment. Whether you’re an experienced runner or just looking for a leisurely stroll, plogging is an enjoyable way to stay fit while contributing to a cleaner, healthier planet.
Why Plogging?
- Exercise for All: Plogging is a great way to get your heart pumping while helping clean up the environment. Whether you’re jogging, walking, or anything in between, it’s a fun way to stay active and make an impact.
- Protect Marine Life: By collecting litter on the trails, you help prevent waste from reaching the ocean and threatening marine ecosystems. This event is all about keeping Matheson Hammock clean and ensuring that the beauty of this local gem remains for generations to come.
- Sustainable Community Engagement: This event is an opportunity to connect with fellow environmental enthusiasts, contribute to a local cause, and take part in a global movement. Together, we can make a real difference!
