A psychological thriller that captivated millions in print and on screen will take the stage this week as The Girl on the Train opens Wednesday, May 14, at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables. The production, staged by Actors’ Playhouse, will run through June 8, with a highlighted performance on Friday, May 16, at 8 p.m.
Adapted from the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins—which sold over 20 million copies globally and inspired a DreamWorks film—the play has been reimagined for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel. The result is a taut, suspenseful drama that brings Hawkins’ dark narrative to life with immediacy and intensity.
The story follows Rachel Watson, a woman grappling with alcoholism, trauma, and fractured memories. Her life begins to spiral when she becomes obsessed with a seemingly perfect couple she glimpses each day from the window of her commuter train. When the woman she observes goes missing, Rachel finds herself pulled into the investigation—raising questions not only about the people around her, but about her own role in the mystery.
The adaptation strips the novel down to its psychological core, exploring themes of identity, obsession, and perception. As the plot twists and tensions rise, The Girl on the Train challenges audiences to question what they see—and what they think they know.
Directed by Actors’ Playhouse veteran David Arisco, the production promises a noir-tinged atmosphere, with shadowy staging and sharp pacing designed to keep audiences guessing until the final scene.
